《朗文高級辭典》kindly 條的注釋是： 「Kindly 意思是請，但常常表示，措辭的人覺得被打攪的時辰用的翻譯」

Longman exam dictionary:Kindly is a word which means please翻譯社 but is used by the speaker when he is annoyed (so it is used 'ironically', in a sense)

英語學者John Bremner提到 kindly:"Kindly" is stronger and more formal than "please" and tends to connote the idea of "Do this -- or else" （ Kindly 比 please語氣強，更正式，常常帶「翻譯公司要如許做─ ─不然」寄義）。
Current English Usage 說 ： Do not use "kindly" in requests where "please" will do （提出要求，可以說please ,就不要說 kindly ）翻譯

Kindly和please不是沒有互用的時刻，舉例以下：
（ 1 ） Kindly shut the door（ 請關上門 ） 。
（ 2 ） Would you kindly leave me alone （ 請不要打攪我） 。

kindly 有 please 的意思，兩字沒必要並用； kindly有不滿意味，例如：Kindly turn the radio down while I am working. （我在工作，請你把收音機調小聲一點）。這一句的kindly是較強烈的要求翻譯

要客虛心氣的說「請」，please 比 kindly 簡單而自然。

kindly並非很客套的說法。

第一句的kindly可用please庖代 ， 第二句的 kindly 則有不滿寄義，不宜改 為 please 。
